I came across this list of the best horror/western films on blumhouse.com. Before I even started reading the list I said to myself that if “Ravenous” and “The Burrowers” aren’t on this list, then it isn’t a good one – but they were both there, along with another one I had forgotten about “Dead Birds.”

The author of the article said that watching the recent film “Bone Tomahawk” was the inspiration for the list. I just saw that film on Netflix a few weeks ago and I have to say that I was surprised by it. First of all, I like films of all genres, not just horror or sci-fi; to me, a good story is a good story no matter what genre it is. With that being said, I was in the mood to watch a western, and this one looked good to me and my wife. The film starts out as a western, and it is a little slow at first, but still good. But the last third of the film is definitely horror. Not to say that I was upset, but I believe someone who isn’t in to horror might be a little shocked by the ending of this film.

I still recommend “Bone Tomahawk” and the above movies that I mentioned in this post. I often wonder why there aren’t more western/horror mixes. One film that wasn’t on this list was “The Missing,” the Ron Howard film starring Tommy Lee Jones. Although definitely not a horror film, this western definitely had some horror elements to it and it was a great film that stayed with me quite a while after watching it.
